#PeopleFirst Friday: Micah Fuller
When you ask Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnerships Micah Fuller what “makes him tick” outside of work, rather than focus on his own personal hobbies or accolades, he immediately lights up talking about the thing that matters to him most in life – his family.
“From day one, being at CSM has always been about being part of something bigger than myself – being part of a family,” Fuller said. “My family is the most important thing to me. My wife and I have raised two NCAA Division 1 athletes, both successful in their own rights, and the opportunities that have come from my career, I see how they’ve guided my children. That’s just amazing to me.”
Fuller’s son Kyle was a golfer at the Air Force Academy, and recently completed his military service with the Air Force. His daughter Caroline, a 2022 graduate of Baylor University, was an All-American member of the Bears’ Equestrian team. Ironically enough, it was through their dad’s business connections that initially led them down their respective sports paths.
“Kyle developed an interest in the military at first through work I was doing with the CIAA Tournament,” Fuller said. “We had the Marines as a client, and I would have Kyle go hang out with the Marines while I was working. During all those years of hanging around marine generals, we developed an affection for the military, and then the opportunity for him to play college golf for Air Force came around.
“With Caroline, she was able to get into Equestrian, because my boss at a former company had a daughter who was taking lessons,” he continued. “Caroline was about four years old, and told me ‘Dad, I want to try that.’ The running joke is that I got her up on a horse at four years old and she never got off. My wife once told me that we leased half a horse, and I asked her ‘Which half?!’”
As Fuller’s children begin the next chapter of their lives, their dad is excited about what the future holds for both Kyle and Caroline.
“One of my favorite books was written by a Christian author named Lloyd Reeb. It was a business book called Halftime.” he said. “In the book, he talks about how the first half of our career is doing what we have to do. The second half is doing what we want to do. It’s called ‘From Success to Significance.” We’ve always worked hard to be successful, but now, how do you be significant? But how do you apply that to your children? Now, both of our kids are at the point where you have let them go and have their own successes in life.
“Using my career passions to look out for my kids and to see how they’ve grown in their lives was exciting, but the thing I get really excited about now is what they’re going to do with their kids one day,” Fuller continued. “My hope is that the kids will instill tradition by getting their kids involved in sports, like my father did with me, and my wife and I did with them. To us, it’s about living that legacy.”
